山鬼花钱,始铸于元末明初,清代铸行极盛,民间行用甚广。是清代道士用来施法以降妖震鬼驱邪的载体,也可叫法器。经道士开光后,百姓请回挂于家中镇宅或随身携带保平安。在清代山鬼花钱是流传最广的时期,很多人都将其佩戴在帽子、腰带上,一来其美观的形象可以作为一种饰品,二来也可以满足驱鬼辟邪的心理。除此之外,山鬼花钱也多被用在屋角、影壁之类的地方,作为镇宅之物,而带有八卦图案的山鬼花钱,更是其中的上品!
